Middle-earth History Meme: 1/3 Relationships: Túrin and Beleg

One only was mightier in arms among the march-wardens of Thingol at that time than Túrin, and that was Beleg Strongbow; and Beleg and Túrin were companions in every peril, and walked far and wide in the wild woods together.”

Middle-earth History Meme: 1/3 Relationships: Morgoth & Sauron
(AU: fem!Melkor, fem!Sauron) fem!sauron fancast credit (x)

"Last of all is set the name of Melkor, He who arises in Might. But that name he has forfeited; and the Noldor, who among the Elves suffered most from his malice, will not utter it, and they name him Morgoth, the Dark Enemy of the World. Great might was given to him by Ilúvatar, and he was coeval with Manwë. In the powers and knowledge of all the other Valar he had part, but he turned them to evil purposes, and squandered his strength in violence and tyranny. For he coveted Arda and all that was in it, desiring the kingship of Manwë and dominion over the realms of his peers.

From splendour he fell through arrogance to contempt for all things save himself, a spirit wasteful and pitiless. Understanding he turned to subtlety in perverting to his own will all that he would use, until he became a liar without shame. He began with the desire of Light, but when he could not possess it for himself alone, he descended through fire and wrath into a great burning, down into Darkness. And darkness he used most in his evil works upon Arda, and filled it with fear for all living things. […]

Among those of his servants that have names the greatest was that spirit whom the Eldar called Sauron, or Gorthaur the Cruel. In his beginning he was of the Maiar of Aulë, and he remained mighty in the lore of that people. In all the deeds of Melkor the Morgoth upon Arda, in his vast works and in the deceits of his cunning, Sauron had a part, and was only less evil than his master in that for long he served another and not himself. But in after years he rose like a shadow of Morgoth and a ghost of his malice, and walked behind him on the same ruinous path down into the Void.”

Middle-earth History Meme: 1/3 Quotes:

"We have sworn, and not lightly. This oath we will keep. We are threatened with many evils, and treason not least; but one thing is not said: that we shall suffer from cowardice, from cravens or the fear of cravens. Therefore I say that we will go on, and this doom I add: the deeds that we shall do shall be the matter of song until the last days of Arda."

- Fëanor, Of the Flight of the Noldor - The Silmarillion

'And the doom of Fëanor was true-spoken also.'
- The Annals of Aman, Morgoth’s Ring - HoMe

Middle-earth History Meme: 1/5 Elves: Beleg Cúthalion

Beleg Cúthalion was a Sindarin Elf serving under Thingol in the realm of Doriath during the First Age. Possibly one of the Unbegotten, he was one of the greatest heroes of the Elder Days; an unsurpassed archer, great hunter and captain of the Marchwardens of Doriath.
Along with his friend Mablung, he was the only one of the elves of Doriath who fought alongside the hosts of the Noldor in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. He also took part in the Hunting of the Great Wolf Carcharoth.
He later became teacher, brother-in-arms and greatest friend of Túrin Turambar and so became entangled in his Doom.

When Túrin left Doriath, Beleg followed him into his exile to deliver the King’s pardon and convince him to return, taking with him the sword Anglachel forged by Eöl. Upon his arrival, with Túrin absent, Beleg was captured by the outlaws near Amon Rûdh, then bound to a tree and starved for three days until Túrin arrived to free him. Túrin declined the invitation to return, and so, after having brought the news of his decision back to Thingol, Beleg joined his friend and his band of outlaws. They situated themselves in the halls of Mîm the Petty-dwarf, and together took up the fight against Morgoth. The land became known as Dor-Cúarthol, the ‘Land of Bow and Helm’. When Mîm was captured by orcs, he revealed the outlaw’s position. All were slain except for Túrin, who was captured, and Beleg, who was left behind, although grievously wounded. He followed the Orcs into Taur-nu Fuin, where he met Gwindor, an elven survivor of the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. Together they recovered Túrin from the orc-camp where he was held, and carried his unconscious body away to safety. When Beleg cut Túrin’s restraints with Anglachel, the blade slipped and cut Túrin, awakening him. Disoriented and hurt after days of torture, he then wrestled the sword from Beleg, not recognizing his friend in the darkness, and killed him.
